Pennsylvania bluestone is found in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Geo. Schofield Co., Inc. quarries and employs quarries to produce high quality bluestone products from our fabrication shop. We carry a complete line of Pennsylvania bluestone products including cut pattern and irregular flagstone, to sawn treads and thermal pattern material. |

Natural Cleft Bluestone: This is bluestone with a natural texture that is created when blocks of bluestone are sawn out of the ground and opened up on the seams that are visible on the sawn edges of the block. The block is then loosened on the seams and then the slabs peeled off. This then exposes the natural cleft surface of the piece of stone.
Thermal Finished Bluestone: After blocks of bluestone are sawn into a specific thickness, they are wet down and burned. The water penetrates the sawn surface of the stone, and when the extreme heat is passed over it, the heat agitates the moisture, causing the stone to "pop", creating a textured but smooth surface. Most thermal-finished bluestone is without ridges and indentations that would define it as natural cleft.
Full-Color Bluestone: Full range describes the variety of coloring, thickness and natural cleft texture, which can be expected with a large quantity of bluestone pieces. The range of colors to be expected are primarily blue-grey, green, rust, brown and/or grey-green. It is this full range of colors that gives bluestone its natural characteristic beauty. |
